It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Valdosta Junior Service League. The purpose of the Valdosta Junior Service League is to improve cultural, welfare, recreational, civic, and educational conditions in this community, to promote volunteerism, and to cooperate with other national, state, or local organizations performing similar services. This corporation is organized as a non-profit corporation, and no part of the net earnings shall inure to the benefit of any individual.
As the 67th President of this organization, it is a pleasure to work with over 100 active members who contribute more than 7,000 hours of service annually. Each day, our members strive to carry on the spirit of volunteerism. Since inception in 1936, the rich history of the VJSL has included a multitude of volunteer efforts all aimed at fulfilling our purpose.
Our organization provides a multitude of areas for our members to contribute their interest, time and talent to meet the needs of our community. Within the League itself are many committees in which our members focus their energy.
Our Ways and Means Committees are responsible for the cultivation of our three major fundraising projects annually: Annual Run, Annual Benefit, and Merry Marketplace. The VJSL partners with SGMC to provide assistance at the All Spice Cafe in addition to boosting two wonderful cookbooks that are available for purchase. Through these successful efforts, our organization is able to contribute financial assistance to many local nonprofit agencies.
Our organization is based in downtown Valdosta at the beautifully restored Converse Dalton Ferrell House. The Converse Dalton Ferrell House is maintained by the League and is on the National Register for Historic Places. It is available for rental.
